Crested Butte for GrindTV

It had been a while since we were back in the Rockies, but in January we did a weeklong adventure to Crested Butte, Colorado. The first days we got dumped on, then days of bluebird skies, then another snowfall... and no one there. And Archie stole our hearts in the Cubs program, where they discovered he's a goofyfoot and has unreal balance.

In addition to a whole lot of turns, while we were there, we also did this 7 Things You Have to Check out at Crested Butte piece for GrindTV. com. Ann also grabbed some amazing images.

Jetty Summer '15 Shoot

Our good friends at Jetty have just released their Summer 2015 campaign featuring shoots from Barbados and The Keys. We are extremely excited about Jetty's summer gear and the work that Creative Director, John Clifford did with these images.

Ann Coen for Jetty

We could not have done it without our good friends Jessica Williams, Barry and Christie Banfield at Barry's Surf School Barbados and their good natured instructors, Jordan Heaselgrave, Daniel Edgehill, and Mathew Kieffer as well as Barry, Nicole, and James Baxter.

Check out Jetty's Spring/Summer line.

Jetty Rock School Tech Labs

The Jetty Rock Foundation continues to amaze. With the money raised at last year's Hop Sauce Festival, the JRF just purchased 50 iPads to be used at the Ethel Jacobsen and LBI Grade School. They also made a $5,000 donation to the Beach Haven Elementary School for new computers. As the president of the JRF, Ann helped bring this all together. Superintendent Karen T. McKeon set aside a room in each of the EJ and LBI Grade Schools as the new Jetty Tech Labs. The walls of these are adorned by Ann's photos that were designed by Jetty to be inspirational posters, printed by Typestries.

Victoria Ford at the SandPaper just wrote this great story about the donation. Here is a quote from Ann:

“These children are members of our community, and if we can nurture the education in our own backyard and promote the ‘pay it forward’ mentality, then we can only have a better community for the future,” Coen said, adding she personally feels education should be at the fore of American thinking, and budgetary cuts to education shortchange the potential of future community and national leaders.

Against Me! and Gaslight, DC

Ann got to shoot the first real portraits of New Jersey's The Gaslight Anthem back in 2008, on the eve of The '59 Sound release at our friend Matty and Jana's house. On September 10, 2014, The Gaslight Anthem kicked off their tour in support of their latest Get Hurt with Against Me!. Matty and Dogwig Printing had just printed all the tour merch for both bands. Ann made the drive with them to the 9:30 Club in DC, met up with the Gaslight and Against Me! crews and then Ann captured some of amazing moments from the night. "Caught in the Act" Wrap Up

The first artist reception at the Ann Coen Gallery is in the books. It was an insane week of painting, planting, power washing, preparing, and hanging our first ever show Caught in the Act. But it was also a pleasure to spend time with such a legendary and humble photographer in Ken Salerno.

“The Pope,” as he is known here, still won’t let us refer to him as an artist, but his documentation of the punk and hardcore scene in New Jersey going back over 30 years was truly amazing. Shown in conjunction with Steve Tozzi’s “Riot on the Dance Floor: The story of City Gardens and Randy Now,” at the Lighthouse International Film Festival, we are very grateful of how many who came to see the film also checked out Salerno’s work. We're thankful for Randy who helped promote the exhibit and want to congratulate Tozzi on a fantastic New Jersey premiere. Caught in the Act will hang through Thursday, June 12 and we will have digital files available upon request for the rest of the summer. Please contact the gallery if you are interested in purchasing one of the limited prints or skate decks.
